Pilates-Stretch

Mondays & Fridays 12:10pm -12:55pm

Pilates-Stretch/Pilates Yoga Fusion class works the deeper core muscles to achieve efficient and graceful movement, improve alignment, breathing, and body awareness. It delivers simultaneous stretching and strengthening in a non-judgmental environment, with a low-impact balanced system of body/mind exercise. With an emphasis on breath and alignment, the instructor provides several variations making the class accessible for all levels, and taking it at your own pace is encouraged. If you want to work on something specific, just let the instructor know and they will do their best to accommodate you in class. Mats and props are provided, and while the class is traditionally barefoot, shoes are also permitted. Movement should never be a punishment, so let the hardest decision you make be showing up, and come have fun with us!

TAUGHT BY LUCY BRUSH

Lucy Brush began dancing at the age of three in Los Angeles, CA. Through her training, she learned the art of several dance techniques, competing and choreographing both nationally and internationally. During her summers, she trained at intensive programs such as Cal Arts, Boston Conservatory and Boulder Jazz in Colorado. She attended Smith College where she majored in Dance and Anthropology, and has since performed with companies in Los Angeles, New York, Honolulu and Portland. In 2008, Lucy began Yoga and Pilates as a way to recover from a dance injury, and was immediately hooked. She loved the idea of connecting through movement in a non-competitive way that also taught her to listen to her body and go at her own pace. She received her certifications while living in Hawaii and takes the self-loving approach to movement that her instructors instilled in her there.
Lucy also believes in educating through her classes, incorporating anatomical alignment into her cues, so her students don’t only learn a particular sequence, but what that sequence is doing for the body, how it helps, and how each muscle is working. While exercise can be hard work, she believes that movement should first and foremost be fun, so modifications and props are encouraged. If you feel like challenging yourself, great! If you feel like taking it easy, great! The class is for you, so follow your gut at whatever intensity serves you best!
